About the Image

Plant - Pretty as a pitcher plant by Mike Savad

This is a pitcher plant (Sarracenia leucophylla Bris). This plant eats bugs. It's the evolution of plant technology, when a plant can create a way to get an extra source of income (well food in this case), to survive. The carnivorous plant secretes a sweet nectar that attracts insects. When they land, they will find it tricky to stand as the plant is lined with small downward pointing hairs. Once it slips to the bottom, it will find itself drowning in water, which it will then die and be absorbed by the plant.
