This is an outstanding piece of work. The aura of Powell River with its resident fishing boats is portrayed beautifully. The vessel “Shirley” is very thought provoking to me personally.

Artist's Description
I took this photo when I saw an abandoned house in rural North Carolina. The poke berries reminded me of a time when my children were preschool age. I had just made them presentable to go shopping. I answered a quick phone call and couldn't find my daughters. I called them and they came out from under some poke berry bushes. They were covered in staining pokeberry juice and had ruined their clothes. Highly upset I told them to wash up and change their clothes. I made the 2nd mistake of the day by answering the phone again. My daughters were not to be found. I check the pokeberry bush and found them both naked with big smiles on their faces, claiming they had not ruined their clothes this time. The original is matted and framed to a 16x20 inch size and was painted on Arches 300# hot press paper.

HISTORY& EDUCATION My art career seemed to begin when I was six. My first drawings were animals drawn in pencil on discarded paper bags from my great uncle's grocery store. Fulfilling my dream of receiving art instruction, I majored in art at Northern Illinois University in the early 1970s. I paid my tuition and fees through commissioned oil portraits. Setting aside my art to raise my four daughters, I pursued a career as an advocate for abused children. I returned to my art in 2007 when I retired and moved to a small farm northwest of Bristol Virginia. Since that time I have participated in several watercolor workshops in the southeast and now work exclusively in watercolor. I teach watercolor classes at The Arts Depot in Abingdon and...
