This piece depicts a big wary brown trout doing what they do best, investigate a fly before they commit to eating it. One of my favourite caddis patterns for fishing in lakes is the Goddard Caddis. It's a big profile and you can skate and twitch the fly without it waterlogging and sinking. I've caught quite a number of big browns on Goddard but I've had more refusals than I care to count. It is very rewarding however when you do get that big brown to eat and to be able to watch them.

Hailing from the prairie region of central Canada, Nick Laferriere was raised in the country surrounded by nature. His passion for art started at a very young age with countless hours spent scribbling pictures and getting lost in his works. Nick has always been passionate about fishing but it wasn’t until he took up fly fishing that he found his niche in drawing fish. He started out by drawing fish in scientific illustrative form. Later, his artwork evolved into natural, swimming poses with great attention to detail. “One of the first fish I ever drew was a rock bass. It was a heck of a challenge and I didn’t enjoy it.
