love this greeting card
This collage (in the original meaning of the word) was great fun to compose. It is based on a photograph I took of the view from a hot air balloon down on to a railway, or railroad yard in Yorkshire, UK. I found the graphic arrangement pleasing. I shall now find - I think - some of the terminology in English idiom possibly different from that used in the USA in explaining the materials I used (if you are interested, that is). Apart from the obvious toy railway lines/track, the roof of the shed is corrugated card, the abandoned window frames from lego, little rubber rings for tyres, twigs for logs, matchsticks, a chain from a child's necklace, gravel, plaster of paris.... are you with me.....?
I was born a Manxman - a native of the Isle of Man in the centre of the British Isles - and my heritage from there sometimes brings a Celtic element to my work. However, another side of my personality has often been expressed in my acrylic painting and photography in a more extraverted, Mediterranean way. Congratulations on your feature in the FAA group Unconventional Materials!
Nigel Radcliffe replied:
Thanks Jilian.

An excellent concept, and well executed with UNconventional materials.....sometimes I wish that I had enough discipline to operate in this manner. I just throw found objects and images together and stir them around in a "visual gumbo" until it "looks right"....!
Nigel Radcliffe replied:
Thanks very much, Douglas, for these comments, especially when you have such expertise yourself. I am a bit disappointed in the dull colours and feel it is rather too literal but the search was, I say, quite fun. The concept of searching rather than finding, is totally different, isn't it.
