The Old Court House is best known as the site of the Dred Scott case, and is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial of the National Park Service. The Dred Scott Decision was a major turning point in the abolition movement in the years leading up to the American Civil War. Joshua House has been described as a photographer, a conservationist, a historian, and an adventurer. Having traveled and worked extensively across the country he is currently concentrating his photographic work in Eastern Texas, centered on Houston. His past creative work has included research, writing, and photography for the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Illinois, Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska, and Dinosaur National Monument in Utah and Colorado. As a conservationist he has worked with the US Army Corps of Engineers, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the National Park Service.
