The Song of Ruth from the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, "Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God: Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me." (KJV)
The beloved story of Naomi, an Israelite, Ruth and Orpah, the Moabite women her sons married. Famine lead to the death of Naomi's husband and sons. In an effort to save her daughter-in-laws, she told them to return to their mothers in hopes they could remarry. Orpah left but Ruth so loved her mother-in-law that she refused to leave her alone.
