About the Image

Sagebrush Lizard by Dawn Senior-Trask

This is an individual bronze plaque from "Snowy Range Life." This one is not actually a relief, but a small sculpture in-the-round. It portrays, slightly larger than life-size, the Sagebrush Lizard (Sceloporus gracious) which scampers across the rocks and lives in the crevices of boulders around Dawn's cabin. The artist has spent many a fascinated hour watching the lizards hunt for insects, spiders, mites, ticks -- even scorpions -- and fight over territory, grappling, wrestling and tossing each other off boulders so ferociously that they remind Dawn of dinosaurs battling for their lives. The original bronze is about 4.5 inches in size.

About the Artist - Dawn Senior-Trask

Dawn Senior-Trask

I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
