I love the painting, and fabric! I’ve always had Border Collies, so they are perfect for me! The insert stuffing is a little lumpy. But i am very satisfied.
This is a rare garden lantern that has at its base an image that is interpreted to be Christ. Under the Tokugawa Shogunate from about 1600 to the mid 19th century Christianity was banned in Japan. There were "hidden Christians" who expressed their faith in a variety of ways including the inscribed icon at the base of this lamp. The lamp is very rare because of the nature of its intent and the longstanding ban in Japan. Even today the lantern is hidden like the hidden Christians of Japan. This unusual piece is on Tea House Island in the midst of the Japanese garden pond at Missouri Botanical Garden, Saint Louis, Missouri. Access to the island is limited to four groups of twenty visitors on a first come, first served basis on each of three days of the Japanese Festival that occurs once a year in August. To be one of the lucky two hundred and forty visitors, one must get in line and hope to make the count before the limit is achieved.

Artists have been accused of being self aggrandizing, long winded, name droppers. I hate it when the critics get it right! In an attempt to diffuse those kinds of accusations, regardless of how accurate they may be, I am writing this statement today. Each picture I make begins with a germ of an idea. I visualize how I...
