Shaniko was the hub of the sheep and wool industry of eastern Oregon in the early 1900's. The town was abandoned and became a "ghost town" in the 1940's. It has been kept alive and partially restored, but still retains the character of the once booming town. The wool barn was the center of activity during the sheering in the spring.
