This was taken on a Montana day of heavy, wet snow. I protected my camera with a rain cover. The sheep, from the Sieben ranch, were blurry through the falling flakes as the grazed on their winter pastures about 5 miles from my house. Taken in December, 2013, I had hoped the snow would be total ground cover to make more of a monotone with the sheep. But we didn't get a blanketing snow until a few months later, and by then the sheep had been taken back to the Sieben ranch, 30 miles north of Helena. Maybe I'll get that shot next year.
I added the same texture to the bland sky as I did in "Horses in Snow."
I've been a professional photographer since 1987 when I began capturing various equine events and rural activities on film. Traditional 35mm SLRs were my cameras of preference in the 1980s and ’90s, but since 2002 I have embraced the digital era. Now I also create digital paintings and use graphic art techniques on many of my images.
