Greek and Spanish boat designs used in the Mediterranean Sea, are the blueprint for shrimp boats. The hull shape has similarities to ancient caravel sailing ships like those used by Columbus and Ponce de Leon. St. Augustine volunteers converted a large shrimp boat into a replica of a caravel in 2013. The former "Apple Jack" is now named the "Espiritu" (or Spirits).
