Without any protection of armor or weapons, they flew a wide variety of dangerous missions. Search and rescue, photo reconnaissance, artillery spotters and air ambulance just to name a few. This slow flying airplane named the Carin' Belle could take off and land in a short distance, plus a side of the fuselage would open into a space just big enough for one stretcher carrying a wounded soldier.
