Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back (see below). The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back.   The wooden frame includes a hanging wire for easy mounting on your wall (see photo on the left).

Artist's Description

The Brookes Ship was a Slave Ship plying the Middle Passage over the Atlantic that delivered slaves to the New World. This document was commissioned in 1788 by a United Kingdom group called the Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade. They thought if more people could see the horrific conditions of the trade, then there would be an outcry against it. It depicts a typical slave ship cargo arrangement and the cold, calculating inhumanity of it. Up close, it displays men, women, and children packed in side-by-side like sardines in a tin. It is clear by this document that Slave Companies and their ship masters objective was to maximize profit by packing in as many human cargo as possible. It is known that maximum occupancy was often exceeded. In fact, on this document they discuss that Africans were positioned and locked down SPOONWISE stowing one within the distended legs of the other.
