About the Image

Snuggled by Maureen Dean

These sisters were playing dress-up and then stopped to read a book on the patio on a sunny day. This painting is one of the illustrations I completed for the children's book "When You Were a Baby Jayhawk" by author Jennifer Bennett (Mascot Publishing, 2012), and is one of my favorite paintings. Against the fence behind the bench was an unusual bush with the largest lemons I've ever seen. I first thought they were grapefruits because of their size and was so fascinated by these gigantic lemons that I plan to use what I've come to call "Crazy Lemons" as the subject of one of my future paintings.

About the Artist - Maureen Dean

Maureen Dean

Inspired by the books of Zoltan Zsabo, Jan Kunz and Stephen Quiller, I first started experimenting with watercolor in 1994. More recently I have been painting in oil, and hope for the day when I have time to work on printmaking, which I also love. In 2010 I was asked to illustrate a children's book called "When You Were a Baby Jayhawk" and some of the illustrations from that book are featured here in the "Illustrations" gallery. I currently reside in the Pacific Northwest, and welcome your questions or comments about my artwork. Please feel free to contact me by email, and to everyone who enjoys my work, I just want to say THANK YOU! Just knowing there are people who appreciate what I do continues to be such a great blessing in my life.
