This is an outstanding piece of work. The aura of Powell River with its resident fishing boats is portrayed beautifully. The vessel “Shirley” is very thought provoking to me personally.

Artist's Description
Dawn traveled throughout several states as an Artist-in-Schools, often staying with host families. In South Dakota, her hosts often took her riding, and this drawing, which Dawn sketched in her journal, commemorates one of these times. Never before had Dawn ridden through a cornfield! Shortly before autumn harvest, the corn towered over horses and riders. "It felt like a jungle." The horses enjoyed grabbing ears of corn as they sauntered down the row, while the family dog sniffed around for mice or rabbits. A most unusual experience for someone from the mountains!
About Dawn Senior-Trask
I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
