Lake Spring Park in Salem is known as "the duckpond". It is beautiful any time of the year but I especially love it in Spring. Every spring the city stocks it with fish and they have "fishing rodeos" several weekends in a row for different age groups.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation. I can still remember the first time I saw a pink "Ladies Slipper" growing up out of a pile of leaves deep in a forest. Those adventures with my family still inspire my landscape paintings today but I'm also blessed with a group of friends who love to paint outdoors.
