Appliance Portraits started as a way to resolve my frustration over who did the dishes and what my role as a wife was to be. These machines represent a woman’s freedom from her chores but also reinforce her domesticity. This is an egg cooker that was my grandmother's, which my mother still occasionally uses. She let me borrow it to paint this piece.
