The morning after the snowstorm found the clouds clearing from west to east, allowing bright sun to shine on the water and pier, but dark clouds still remaining in the eastern sky. The farther and farther you walked out onto the pier, the thicker and thicker the ice was, starting first just on the walking surface but eventually covering the supports holding up the upper walkway with several inches of ice. Being by myself and without crampons, this was as far as I would venture. I pictured myself slipping off the pier and right into the icy water if I went any farther.
