I often paint from objects found in our home. I can then set up a still life scene so I can carefully study how the light illuminates and reflects on the objects. Lighting from a single source such a lamp, open window, doorway is referred to as "Chiaroscuro" which literally translates as "light into dark". This technique was mastered by Rembrandt which he used in many of his famous works. Chiaroscuro adds drama and tension to the painting. This work is done in oils.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta,Canada, Daniel Kansky studied Fine Arts at the University of Alberta. During his early training he won several scholarships to study art through the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Edmonton Public Art Gallery. He also gained practical training in commercial art at the Victoria Vocational and Composite High School also in Edmonton. Throughout Danielís professional career he has held a variety of positions in the advertising and creative field including The Vancouver Sun/Province Newspapers, Southem Press in Toronto, as well as Creative Director of his own graphic design agency.
