About Doug Fredericks
"One sees great things from the valleys, only small things from the peaks." - G.K. Chesterton I find it impossible to write about myself in the third person as though someone else is heaping praise on me, so will spare you of that... I am very much a minimalist photographer. To me, being out and about with my camera whether it be in an urban crowd or in the solitude of a dewy morning meadow is really what, "it is all about." Much of my photography takes place in the Inland Northwest of the United States where I am fortunate to live. I can choose urban street adventures or head on into the solitude of the rural West. Within a 20 minute drive, I can stand in awe of pristine mountain vistas, clear mountain streams and deep,...

Thank you Steve for featuring this in Urban Images.

I love it!!!!!!!! You've illustrated a point I was making to my husband just yesterday. It's the little things we may "see" but only internalize subconsciously that say so much. We drove past a little house ... humble ... looks like the people who lived there were struggling (as so many of us are!) ... but a carved wooden bear out front, with a scarf tied around its neck ... told me everything I needed to know about the people ... the humanity of the people ... inside that little house. Just as the chair and the rug and the pots do in this image. Story telling ... and you captured it ... sooo beautifully. LOVE the tones and edit you've done. VERY cool. f/v
Doug Fredericks replied:
Yes Lois, it is the little things that often speak loudest and not the flashy, status flags that people so often throw around. Thank you as always for taking time to "visit" and leave such warm comments - it is very much appreciated and provides me with much encouragement to keep plodding along...

Doug Fredericks replied:

wonderful capture Doug...so many interesting items too look at...:)
Doug Fredericks replied:
Thank you DeVaughn - yep, this was a really interesting discovery in a little silver mining town in the mountains. Wallace was full of brothels right into the 70s so one can only imagine how prosperous this shop was back in the day.
