Blue Ridge Mountains
of North Carolina
stand these three tall
wooden crosses.
Found on a back country road,
the crosses stand
nearly 15 feet tall
and are hand-carved.
Marking the top of a hill
under the Smoky Mountains
at the head of a very old
pre-Civil War graveyard,
the crosses stand as sentinels
watching over the ancestors
of the local folk in these mountains.
The trinity,
the three crosses,
the most poignant reminder
of our Lord's gift to us
and His promise
to return one day
to bring us
