About the Image

The Palmetto Phoenix Old Sheldon Church Ruins by Elena Tudor

The Sheldon church was built around 1745 and was burned twice: first by the British Army during the Revolutionary War, then by Shermans troupes at the beginning of the Civil War. Although never rebuilt the churchs pillars and outside walls remained erect. A free public service is held every year on the Second Sunday after Easter. The Old Sheldon Church Ruins is now a very popular spot for wedding ceremonies, testimony that new life does spring from ashes.

About the Artist - Elena Tudor

Elena Tudor

I’m a "gypsy soul" passionate about hiking in the mountains, smelling the fresh cut grass, and watching my daughter smile. I love discovering all the little treasures the Carolinas have to offer through my child’s eyes. Raised in Romania – the land of Dracula and Nadia Comaneci - I grew up in a regime where “we were all equals, but some people were more equal than others”. This got me grounded in history and made me appreciate life as it comes. Adventure finds me at every corner...every time I start over I get a deeper understanding on finding inner peace and inspiring those around me. The best is yet to come. Thanks for stopping by...I hope you like some of my photos...most were taken while traveling in the Carolinas:...
