About the Image

The Restoration by Lewis A Ramsey

Painted in 1921, this painting shows the Angel Moroni delivering the Book of Mormon's gold plates to the prophet Joseph Smith. The event occurred on the Hill Cumorah, near Palmyra in upstate New York in 1827. It is L. A. Ramsey's most famous work amongst members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This was one of the first paintings portraying this important moment in the Church's history. For years it was printed at the beginning of the large print version of the Book of Mormon. Mr. Ramsey made different original paintings of this scene for different purposes. This one he made particularly to be reproduced and hang in people's homes.
