SHOE REPAIR MAN SAM LICATA TAKING A BREAK WATCHING THE TRAFIC GO BY.OUTSIDE HIS OLD SHOP IN FENTON MICHIGAN. I PASSED HIM MANY TIMES AND FINALLY ASKED HIM IF I COULD CREATE HIS PORTRAIT. THE ORIGINAL PASTEL WAS PAINTED IN THE EARLY 80'S. WHEN THE WORD GOT OUT THAT I HAD FINISHED A PORTRAIT OF SAM HIS FAMILY PURCHASED THIS WORK OF FINE ART. I HAD TO CONCENTRATE VERY HARD TO CAPTURE THE DETAIL OF HIS OLD SHOE REPAIR SHOP WALL TO HIS REAR. THOUSANDS OF TOWN FOLKS PASSED HIM OVER THE YEARS SO WANTED TO CAPTURE SAM TAKING HIS DAILY BREAK OUTSIDE HIS OLD SHOP. HE ALWAYS SMILED AND FOUND TIME TO HAVE CONVERSATION IN HIS SHOP OR SITTING WITH HIM OUTSIDE ON HIS BENCH. HE IS A MAN WHO DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO HIS PROFESSION. WE NOW LIVE IN A THROW AWAY WORLD AND MEN LIKE SAM ARE HARD TO FIND. I HOPE THAT I HAVE CAPTURED A BRIEF MOMENT OF TIME IN AMERICA THAT WILL BE NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
