"Soothing the Soul" | Diana Tripp When asked, many artists will declare that they have been artists since the time they were children. Pastelist Diana Tripp tells a different story. Tripp grew up in Rochester, New York, and as a kindergartener, her teacher provided the class with colored paper and instructed them to make flowers. Tripp dove in with all her heart, and loved the process. When she was finished, she sat admiring her rendition of a beautiful green flower. Tripp’s teacher wasn’t impressed, however, and scolded her for using the green paper as petals. “Flowers aren’t green!” the teacher said, “That paper was for the stems and leaves!” Mortified, Tripp threw her flower away and closed the door on her inner creativity.
