This painting juxtaposes almost mirror images of Lady Gaga and David Bowie as �Ziggy Stardust�, an androgynous, space-age stage persona he has left to history. The painting�s style is inspired by the colorful yet moody paintings of Picasso�s early career.
Hubert is inspired by Lady Gaga and other icons of popular culture whom he paints in his contemporary take on an old-world style. He gave Lady Gaga the very first painting he rendered of her likeness. It was seen on the January 15th, 2010 episode of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and more extensively on Oprah.com (Lady Gaga Shares her Secrets Backstage). He continued to find more images of her that he wanted to paint and had his first post-college gallery show at Skylight Studios in Charlottesville, Virginia consisting entirely of Lady Gaga paintings coinciding with the performer's appearance in the city. Hubert and the exhibit received a great deal of local media attention.
