Thomas Circle is a traffic circle in Washington, DC, and is at the intersection of Massachusetts and Vermont Avenues, and 14th and M Streets. A tunnel completed in 1940 allows the heavily trafficked Massachusetts Avenue to go under Thomas Circle. The traffic circle was part of Pierre L'Enfant's original plan for the District of Columbia, which he developed at the request of President George Washington in 1791. Following the American Civil War, the circle was named in honor of General George Henry Thomas, who heroically fought for the Union in the war. The equestrian statue of General Thomas at the center of the circle was made by sculptor John Quincy Adams Ward and erected in 1879.

I enjoy photography and writing, and sometimes think of myself as a photojournalist. If there is a story to be told with a photograph, I tell it. As a longtime resident of Washington, DC, a lot of my photographs are of this area, and I enjoy writing in the description something about the shot -- it could be a short statement about an equestrian statue in the middle of a park, or a more intimate tale of the mausoleum where Abraham Lincoln's son, Willie, was entombed for the remaining three years of Lincoln's presidency after the boy's death.
