I had been in Egypt several days before I really got a taste of the River Nile. Sure, I had walked out on a bridge in Cairo, but a river through a city never gives you quite the same feeling as it does in a more natural setting. The character of the River Nile in Cairo vs Aswan was night and day. There were some views, like this one near Aswan that were timeless.
You see, a Felucca, the sailboat in this photo, is a traditional lateen-rigged sailboat. They have traveled the length of the Nile for generations, and it's only in more recent decades that they've become mainly a tourist experience.
