Translation: Burnt rice #3.
This is number 3 in the Tutong painting series.
Tutong is the word for cooked rice that is slightly brown to chocolate (if burned) that sticks to the sides and bottom of a rice pot.
Growing up, I recall that my grandparents, uncles and aunts would tell me never to eat tutong because (1) it will make your skin dark and (2) it will make you lazy. This painting demystifies the belief. The color of your skin is not influenced by food. But food can make you lazy if you eat too much and become sluggish. Or maybe I'm just plain lazy :-)
I am a Filipino painter. I paint stories that spans both ends of the emotional spectrum- happy, sad, or somewhere in between.
Aside from the Philippines, my works have found their way to collectors in Australia, Canada, Dubai, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Singapore, UK and the USA.
