My childhood years were filled with nursery rhymes and fairy tales, some of which were never really left behind. As a little girl I never thought to question the sense of them or ponder over their meanings. They simply were what they were -- entertainment and joy -- and I cherished them.
This is one that stayed tucked away in my brain over the years despite being constantly attacked by demands to replace it with dry scholarly facts or later, the necessary mundane thoughts of everyday living. With its value unrecognized in childhood, it remained safe so that someday it would reveal itself in my artwork.

To create visual art is to bring to the eyes what is seen with the heart. Deep inner yearnings, humorous life experiences, the picturesque words of a storyteller, the touch of music, a graceful dance -- all these can be the impetus which brings life to a dead-white canvas. The desire to present a visual interpretation of these things creates the spark that fuels my fire. To release the vision is the need. To share the feeling is the goal.
