About Robert Lee Hicks
Robert has been drawing all his life and paints to celebrate his Geechee heritage. He has developed arthritis in his fingertips from pulling sections of bed sheets (his "canvases") over handmade stretchers, but the urge to paint is stronger than the fleeting pain. He's a very quiet man, focused at all times. This comes from being a Marine for nine years, and now a soldier deployed to Afghanistan in the US Army. Even without speaking, Robert is heard loudly. By studying his paintings, a collector understands a very strong, simple man who, through his brush, speaks and makes a stand. Robert's roots are deep in the sand of Coastal Georgia.
