About the Image

Union Station Skylight by Karyn Robinson

While I love old buildings, I'm always happy to see them preserved and adapted to present day needs so that they can continue to serve the public. Case in point, Union Station in Los Angeles. Part old, Part new. Built in 1939 and considered to be one of the "last great railway stations" Union Station today is still a hub of transportation for Southern California serving 60,000 passengers daily as they access Amtrak trains. This beautiful skylight is part of an addition to the original structure and just like the older details it is equally striking in it's own way. The quality and quantity of natural light that floods the space below is inspiring.

About the Artist - Karyn Robinson

Karyn Robinson

When I moved to Arizona from the Midwest I was awe-struck by the beauty I saw all around me. Where some saw only sand and rocks, I saw incredible beauty - not just in the cacti and desert vistas but also in the influence of the Native American and Hispanic cultures. Another passion of mine is preserving the history of our built environment. Through my photography and paintings I hope to bring attention to important places worthy of preservation so that other generations will appreciate the lives and architectural artistry of those who came before. I believe, "to understand where you're going you have to first understand where you've been." Thank you for visiting my galleries. I'd love to hear your thoughts so drop me a line...
