This is an outstanding piece of work. The aura of Powell River with its resident fishing boats is portrayed beautifully. The vessel “Shirley” is very thought provoking to me personally.

Artist's Description
The USS Kittywake was a US navy submarine rescue vessel, in her most famous mission, she was the recovery vessel for the Challenger space shuttle disaster. The Kittywake was in operation from 1945 to 1994. The Cayman Islands government purchased the vessel in 2008, and eventually sank her for use as an artificial reef in 2011. Deana Whittemore is the model for this image.
