About the Image

Vegetable Patchwork by Isobel Brook Haslam

This painting took me 3 months to paint..there is so much going on in it. I had visited an allotment in Somerset, England, on an intensely hot day so fare in this part of the world. The colours of all the vegetables and flowers growing in the vegetable patch and the shapes of the flower beds started to form vibrant patterns in my mind.. The Cabbage White and Red-tipped butterflies draw the eye to the centre of the work and make a feature of the exquisite delicacy of these most simple insects.

About the Artist - Isobel Brook Haslam

Isobel Brook Haslam

Isobel Haslam was born in England in 1962, she graduated with a BA Honours in Art and Design in 1984.and now lives in Hexham in the heart of Northumberland the least populated and most wild county in England. Isobel has a highly illustrative and fine art approach to surface pattern and design through which she communicates her love and fascination for the natural environment. Images and sensations of places personal to Isobel have been translated into paintings with a kaleidoscopic dream-like quality where colour and pattern collide to dramatic effect. The patterns and forms inherent in nature as well as the textures and minutiae of living things, combine with her appreciation of Asian arts and crafts to become highly elaborate...
