Vitreoscilla bacteria. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through several examples of Vitreoscilla sp., the gliding bacterium. This image show the secretions joining the cells that help produce its lubricating properties. Magnification x15,000 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
