Staying off work and staying home recovering from my injury, I watched the world go by and felt the need to catch up. I painted this, wanting to yell out "wait up". Not to worry, I'll be coming back soon with a roar!
Update: So happy to let you know I have recovered 95 % and back to normal life : )
This piece was exhibited at the Toronto City Hall in the Art As A Healing Force Exhibtion, Feb 17-24, 2012. and included in the book published by the Art for Cancer Foundation.
The two sides of me...
My sumi paintings are essentially monochromatic. I find boundless freedom in expressing myself through different shades of black, white and grey. I love to use minimal strokes capturing the essence while leaving enough white space for the viewer's imagination. That stems from the Taoist thinking - sometimes not doing anything is action in itself.
With acrylic, watercolor and oil, I feel like a 4 year old child rolling on the floor coating myself with all the different colors I love. Unlike my Chinese ink paintings, I fill the canvas with so much color that it might be suffocating for you but I am having so much fun I just want to share it with you too.
