A flight of four F/A-18F Super Hornets from Strike Fighter Squadron 22 (VFA-22), better known as the "Fighting Redcocks," pull perfect sonic cones as they transit the Gulf of Mexico above Mach 1 while on a flight from Key West destined for New Orleans. VFA-22 was assigned as part of Carrier Air Wing 14 on the USS Ronald Reagan. The painting was inspired by a detailed description written by LCDR Andy "Skirt" Mickley, seen here as the WSO in the closest jet. His narrative began, "In my 13 years for flying jet fighters for the Navy, this is easily the coolest thing I've seen, but no one in the flight had a camera . . ." Hmm, sounds like a job for an aviation artist!

Wade Meyers

Wade Meyers spent his early years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina before his family moved to Bossier City, La. when he was ten years old. Fulfilling a dream, Wade soloed a Cessna 150 at age 17 and went on to earn his Commercial and Flight Instructor pilot certificates. After high school, he earned a B.A. in History from Louisiana State University in Shreveport while serving in the US Air Force Reserve at Barksdale Air Force Base. With marriage came a move to the beautiful Birmingham, Alabama area. Diving in head first, Wade quit his job at an aviation museum in 2003 and began to work full-time as an aviation artist.
