My mother, Georgia Svolos (married name Phillips), was the head of this project. I remember working on it with her when I was about five years old (which was a few years earlier than 1971; I don't think this was taken in 1971. I think it was taken in 1968 or 1969). I enjoyed visiting the mosaic in Washington Square Park every time I visited my hometown, and was heartbroken when it was destroyed.
