This is the entrance hall to the Whittington Inn, built in 1310, the original manor house of Sir William de Whittington, the grandfather of the famous Dick Whittington who became Lord Mayor of London. This is as it was in the 1950s. It has hosted Kings and Queens and is reputed to have a ghost. It looks a bit different now but when I went for lunch there the other day I noticed that the old lamp is still hanging above the entrance. My father was head-waiter here for many years and was the reason we moved from one end of the country to another when I was a child, it holds many memories for me.

I am an artist from the West Midlands, I work mainly in acrylics but also do some watercolour work and look for scenes of everyday life. I paint people, animals and flowers, landscapes and some abstract works. I need to feel some connection with my subjects. Some of my work is suitable for greetings cards or children. I began painting in 2012 after a lifetime's absence and so am comparatively new to painting. I am still exploring media and technique so have an eclectic mix of work and styles. I have exhibited at the Stourbridge Ruskin Centre and several small local venues and commissioned work has included painted or drawn portraits, flowers, animals and figurative landscapes.
