In 1958 Crayola introduced the 64 count box of crayons. Now I wasn’t born until much later but when I got my first 64 count box (with the sharpener in the back) an artist was born! I remember reading each crayon to learn the names of the colors. No more basic orange, red, green or blue it was Burnt Orange, Magenta, Evergreen and Cornflower Blue! It was one of my most prized childhood possessions, right up there with my Barbie Townhouse. Finally! I had the tools I needed to color the world the way I really saw it. It was as if with that box, the limitations on creativity were removed. Soon coloring books that kept me occupied for hours as a child weren’t enough…. too limiting. WHY color what they dictated on those pages? I can create...
