Wow Congrats on your Sale!!!!

Excellent!

Great composition Pat..wow..I love the mood of these dark clouds looks like a snow storm was brewing ..adding more drama to the situations and harsh mission to time to fill out! I love you way you set the scene in your descriptions..your are painting images in our minds with your words..I really think that you should write a book and have your captures publishes with it..with all your knowledge that you have aquired, and your style of penmenship It would make a awesome book to teach other generations about the sacrifices of lives and courageous men and women that fought for them to be free ..it would be far more interesting for them to see our images and imagine how it must of been than the old outdated books in school! Your galleries are unbelievable! Voted and favored ! :-D

Pat Speirs replied:

Thought thta I had replied to you earlier, many apologies for the oversight, and yes, there is a book on the way but it is a long (for me anyway) hard road. Mnay thanks or your input ane encouragement.

Thank you. Pat. I should mention (you probably know this) that it was not unknown of Blakeslee to welcome new pilots by buzzing - inverted - the train bringing the "kids" out to Debden. He flew more combat sorties - at least 500 - than any other American pilot, racking up a thousand hours of combat flying time. He was a friend of an acquaintance of mine, Bob Tullius, who donated his own P-51, "Donald", to the RAF Museum a few years ago after many years of flying it at air shows. Bob restored his A/C as a replica of the one flown by Donald Emerson, KIA 12/25/44.

Congratulations on your sale Pat. Beautiful planes in a stunning setting!

Thanks Don, so good to hear from you. Yep, bouncing your P51 on a low pass is a real no-no, but these were the guys who made the difference. Your kind remarks much appreciated, and my regards to your colleagues who came over here and contributed so much - they are not forgotten. All good fortune to you and family in the coming year.......................Pat

Artist's Description

Mustang Series Winter Freedom A section of P51 Mustangs returning to base over the harsh winter landscape of Western Europe. The winter of 1944-45 was one of the hardest on record and many days passed without any flight operations. The group in the image are seen returning from an interdictor sortie and revelling in the low-level operational freedom afforded by the almost complete air superiority at that time. With that superiority it was realised that there was no real need for the drab cammo schemes seen earlier in the war and the fighter pilots made the most of it in expressing their individual colour paint jobs. The leading P51 is that flown by Don Gentile of the 4th Fighter Group based at Debden.
