Internationally recognized sculptor Dawn Johnson introduces, through Fine Art America, an ever changing collection of unique modern metal sculptures. All of my pieces are hand cut and brushed using many different grinding and sanding techniques. Each one is unique and original. I create these sculptures in a small studio located in Mentor, Ohio and spend anywhere from 20 to 100 hours per week creating these sculptures.
I am a self taught sculptor who after many years of trial and error has been able to master many different techniques to get the desired effect.
I have always been an artist at heart but it wasn’t until 2005 that I was able to devote the time to my art form. I had found the medium that most inspired me, I love the brilliance found in metal, I enjoy bringing out the hidden beauty of metal.
I find inspiration all around me, through shapes and color, nature and trash. I get inspired by my mood, by different life events, through science and space. I am inspired by others, their happiness, their excitement. Inspiration is all around me.
The possibilities are endless when you are working with metal.
I have a need to express myself through sculpture, it is therapeutic, its my personality, I see myself in all of my works, they are my ideas and thoughts , my creations, my addiction, they are like my children. I cant stop, it makes me happy.
I know I have a lot to learn but I have been told that my naïveté allows me to see things with truly fresh eyes.
