Don's graphic art and superb draughtsmanship has been equally well received, having appeared in national and international publications and in more than two dozen children's books. Born in the US of Swedish ancestry, Don lives in charming and historic New Castle, Delaware with his wife Kerstin, who was born and raised in Sweden. From their home which they built directly on the Delaware River, they share their view with a never ending parade of wildlife and the occational cruise ship that slides past the studio window.
'A self-described 'reductionist,' Almquist's paintings are spare, minimalist presentations that rely on color to achieve thematic and emotional impact.' as described by the curator of Almquist's solo show at the American Swedish Historical Museum in Philadelphia.
