Melanie Spencer (Willow) was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As the daughter of an artist, she developed an interest as a young woman in pencil and watercolour design, but did not pursue her career until later in life. As an emerging artist, she is seeking to interpret images which project a sense of contemplation or emotional involvement in the viewer, as well as creating nostalgic or familiar subjects which reach the viewer on a personal level. She enjoys working in graphite, coloured pencils, Conte', and pastel but anticipates working in other mediums in the future.
Melanie has previously studied Native art and design under James Martin, West Coast First Nation's artist.
