I loved drawing, painting and especially coloring in coloring books as a child. I would copy drawings and color them in always hating the dark outline. The first day of school was fast approaching and we were getting school supplies for first grade. That is when I saw them.. the box of 64 crayons. My mom couldn't disappoint me I love her for that it really opened a door for me. I used to take all the shades out and use different purples together so things would look beautiful in my eyes. It was the same with the other colors but purple was my favorite then. Later I loved art class from the beginning and remember how proud I was when my art teacher wanted to keep something I made. It was a snake out of clay and even after all these years it meant so much to me I still remember it with a smile:) She said she liked it not because of what animal it was but how I made it and pointed to the little details I had carved into it. What I felt back then is what I try to bring to my work today:) When that shows through and the viewer gets that pure emotion I am so glad. Isn't being alive a wonderful thing:) During High School majoring in Art was my first interest. When I graduated high school I took a summer drawing class at Moore College of Art which helped me to finish getting a portfolio together. My years at Moore were a wonderful time for my art. That is when I really started understanding about what composition meant and color theory. I left their halls a proud alumnae and with a smile I couldn't remove when I heard I had made the Dean's List. My senior project was a series of photographic books. Where I experimented with solar printed images and the books ranged from paperback sized to one that stood on the floor freestanding with 16 x 20 images. The day I signed up for a Basic Photography class, just to fulfill a requirement, I never knew just how much I would fall in love:) I changed my major from Illustration junior year and never looked back. Today I am a photographer with a disability.Proud that I've found a way back to something I thought was lost to me forever...my art.
