I am a contemporary Impressionist painter. I am a painter who captures familiar moments with simplicity and directness. I work primarily in oil and watercolor from life—painting outdoors and from still lifes in my studio.
I particularly like finding beauty in the ordinary. I seek out and am excited by the moments when I find “the common” has been elevated to the uncommon by some act of light, atmosphere or perspective. I am attracted to subjects or themes that convey some sense of mystery or reminiscence. Thus, you will discover vintage architecture and objects, concealed places, shadows and palpable mood as part of my work.
My goal is to say more with less and bring more abstraction and mystery into my painting.
I paint because it’s discovery. It is a way for me to fully observe, explore, and connect with the world. I also paint because it’s challenging. I have to make decisions, solve problems, and find that balance between intellect and intuition.
My career was as an art instructor and designer of art programs for Raleigh and Cary municipal government, responsible for managing the arts centers and programs.
I exhibit regularly with many arts organizations in Raleigh and Cary and galleries through Wake County and New Hanover County along the coast.
