Whenever I look through my viewfinder I will see things, not usually for what they truly are, but as puzzle pieces that I will compose to form some kind of picture that I see as a representation of what I am or what I feel. I use light and shadows to express this and I find lines, curves and shapes to articulate some kind of an emotional connection as I make my depictions both universal and extremely personal. After I've found a vision that has a strong sense of composition and design and if I've found a way to allow it to have some kind of simple meaning, I feel I have done my duty.
During the printing process, it is then that I will search for the inner power and emotion of the image plus an attachment to the image. I look for silence and things that are implicit; things that are already known and understood but never expressed as such. I look for places or subjects where the stillness almost speaks to me and demands my attention. It is in these little areas, between the hectic and demanding, that I discover connections and what these connections mean.
