London

Aldo lived in the UK for more than twelve years, spending most of his time in London. It was the city of London that first inspired him to become a photographer, and after attending a course in the United States, he began his photography career in London, in the midst of the magic atmosphere of its huge parks and imposing buildings. Surrounded by its seamless mixture of historical and modern, and contrasting building styles (sometimes placed next to each other), the eccentric markets like Camden Lock and Stables, Portobello, Brick Lane and others, the street performers in Covent Garden, the classic black cabs and red double-decker buses (which are almost extinct now), the theaters and the numerous other lively sites, he was filled with so much inspirational material that he felt as if he could spend his entire life producing artistic works based on this unique city alone. Aldo was in London for the grand celebration that took place in observance of the new millennium. He has captured though his photographs, the essence of a city in transformation; an old power station transformed into the awesome Tate Modern, the erecting of the Millennium Wheel, the building of the Millennium Bridge and the controversial Millennium Dome, the Hungerford Railway and Pedestrian Bridge, the London Gherkin (the new Sir Norman Foster Swiss Building) and other buildings and monuments. Aldo left the UK in 2004 and returned to Italy to care for his aging parents, but quite regularly the artist and photographer returns to London. The photographs in this gallery represent just a small portion of the immense body of work that he has accumulated over the years. Upcoming projects include a new book which will be photographic essay on London. Medium: Black and White film, Kodak Tri-x, 35mm and 120 medium format. Images may appear too bright or too dark on your screen depending on the calibration of your monitor.
