Allan East was born in England and grew up in Toronto, Canada. After high school, he moved to Southern California to pursue his art studies. He attended Pasadena City College and California State University at Long Beach where he received his B.A. and Master's degrees in Art History. He was an art teacher for 30 years at Lemoore High School in Lemoore, California, and at El Camino High School in LaMirada, California. He continued to be a prolific artist, working primarily in acrylic and oils, and later embraced the possibilities inherent in digital art. He now works exclusively with the computer.
None of Allan's works are titled. He finds titles limiting as to the interpretation of his artwork, and prefers that the viewer form an emotional connection with it without predetermining that connection with a suggesting title.
Allan is married to Rebecca and they have a daughter, Elaine McPherson.
Allan retired from education in 2008 and currently resides just outside Atlanta in Bremen, Georgia.
