I am currently an active duty Marine that spends about 7 months out of the year on deployments overseas. When I find time, I enjoy airbrushing with my Iwata HP-C and Iwata HP-BS brushes. I also enjoy drawing and sketching. Most of my drawings are geared toward US Marine Corps aviation. I have been requested to do a complete series of Marine Corps helicopters, jets, tank and vehicles.
When I draw, I prefer to use graphite powder and various brushes including the most important, a toothbrush with nylon bristles. My pencil selection varies from 5B to 5H, leaning more toward the 2B, 4B and F. I make stencils of my concept sketch on posterboard and then create stencils using .003 Mylar to contain the powder to the area I am concentrating on. I also use various artist tapes to maintain straight crisp lines.
When I airbrush, my choices of paint are dictated by the medium I am painting. For t-shirts and doodling I use Createx Acrylic paints. For helmets, cars, etc. and anything that would require a clear coat I prefer euro's that I get from local paint shops. I have found that Badger paints work great for illustrations on canvas panels and illustration boards. Again with the airbrush I use various tapes, freehand stencils, and friskets to maintain sharp edges but still freehand as much as possible.
I have recently met with a local printer that produces great Giclee` prints and a local art gallery that mounts, frames and shrink wraps the prints. I will be selling my prints locally at my unit and eventually network out to bigger and better things. My goal is to have my own business up and running before I retire in 5 more years.
I have other artwork posted at artwanted.com and airbrush.com
